SCHAUMBURG – The Technology & Manufacturing Association is announcing an exciting new partnership with Judson University in Elgin, Illinois, geared towards preparing future leaders in manufacturing.
The course consists of ten monthly sessions plus project work for which a dual-accredited certificate will be awarded along with an option of credits towards a college degree. “We are pleased that Judson University shares our vision as we set into motion our first Manufacturing Leadership Program,” said TMA President Patrick Osborne. “This opportunity is one for which we’ve seen the need and have worked toward for a while. According to the Magazine for Environment, Health and Safety Leaders, the US Supreme Court’s stay on the COVID vaccine mandate is not the last U.S. employers will hear about the matter.
January 26, 2022 OSHA announced it is preparing a General Duty violation to through the agency’s rule-making process. According to a February 14 report from the Association for Manufacturing Technology, technology orders from manufacturers broke $5.9 billion last year, the highest year on record.

SPRINGFIELD – While winter brings plenty of challenges outdoors – including cold, ice and snow – there’s also an increased risk for carbon monoxide (CO) in the workplace. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the highest number of cases involving CO poisoning are in the fall and winter seasons. CO is a poisonous, odorless, colorless and tasteless gas. It’s produced by incomplete combustion of carbon-containing material, like natural gas, gasoline, propane, coal or wood. Prolonged exposure can be deadly. SPRINGFIELD – As the year comes to a close, the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) is reminding Illinois businesses with over 100 employees to provide contact information to the department to remain in compliance with the Equal Pay Act of 2003. The Illinois General Assembly passed and Governor Pritzker signed updated legislation earlier this year that requires private businesses with 100 or more employees in the state of Illinois to report certain payroll information to IDOL beginning in 2022 (see PA 101-656 and PA 102-36). Incentivizes Electric Vehicle Manufacturers to Move to or Expand in Illinois ROCKFORD— Building on Illinois’ role as a leading state in the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing industry, Governor JB Pritzker today signed the Reimagining Electric Vehicles in Illinois Act into law, incentivizing EV production across Illinois. The new incentives benefit the state’s entire EV ecosystem, by helping to build facilities, train Illinois graduates, and create thousands of jobs. This is a major step towards one of the administration’s bold benchmarks: putting one million electric vehicles on the road by 2030. More at TMANews.com CHICAGO – Because natural gas has skyrocketed in price over the past few months, coal-fired electricity generation is expected to be ratcheted up. But that’s not going to be a viable solution in states like Illinois, where their Governor Pritzker recently signed into law a bill that bans coal plants by 2045.

Last year, the association shared live tours of Chicago area manufacturers with interested high school students via Facebook. Before that, TMA sent staffers to video and interview TMA members about the manufacturing efforts they do every day.
