This class will cover multiple types of molds, including stripper plate molds, unscrewing molds, quick change molds, and hot runner molds. Students will learn the basics of mold construction, covering the use and placement of bolts and dowels. Along with leader pins, return pins, support pillars, stop buttons, rail design, clamp slots, and parting-line locks. Explanations on how the mold interfaces with the molding press. Horizontal and vertical clamping is also covered. How to efficiently place the cavities/cores in the mold and choose the best parting-line positions. How runners, ejection, and gates are effected by placement. Solid vs. split construction of basic mold inserting is covered. Plastic resin fundamentals are also explained including amorphous and semi-crystalline. As well as basic plastics’ properties and how they affect the mold design.

Graduate of the TMA Related Theory Apprentice Training Program with a focus on Mold Making  OR
Equivalent industry experience with instructor consent 

NOTE: Dates and times subject to change; employers will be notified of any changes. Classes, workshops, or special events require a minimum number of registrants in order to run as scheduled. In the event of a cancellation, TMA will refund your fee IN FULL. 

CANCELLATION POLICY:  All cancellations will be assessed a $25 Cancellation Fee. Companies will be charged IN FULL if cancellations are not received in writing, by email (education@tmaillinois.org) or faxed (847-825-0041) by noon 5 business days prior to the start date of the class or workshop. No refunds will be provided after this time. If you do not cancel and do not attend, you are still responsible for payment.
