Biometric Privacy Act & Employment Law Webinar
There is a new area of emerging privacy litigation activity that is limited to Illinois given the unique nature of the state’s law: biometrics-based litigation under the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). Illinois is presently the only state with a biometrics law that enumerates a private right of action with the availability of uncapped aggregate damages and attorneys’ fees; that fact, coupled with a recent Illinois Supreme Court decision that makes the path forward for a plaintiff in a BIPA case all-too-easy, has created a minefield of litigation risk for any business with consumers and/or employees in the state. Come learn all there is to understand about BIPA along with recent developments in Illinois employment law. Including BIPA requirements & penalties, use of biometric information (clock-in/clock-out, security/access, etc.), obtaining consent, BIPA practical issues in the workplace, mitigating risk of potential existing violations and much more!
