Rockford's Advanced Machine & Engineering expands in new phase

Northwest Quarterly executive editor, Chris Linden, reports: “Advanced Machine & Engineering (AME) … has built a global reputation for machine tool components and custom-engineered machining processes. Over the past 50 years, this family-owned company has built a reputation for doing difficult jobs with a high degree of precision.”

So far, 2018 has been quite eventful for AME; with a new facility expansioninvestments in new technology, and an admirable apprenticeship program, the company is setting up the future of manufacturing in the Rockford for success.

Cook County Board considers effort to force mandated minimum wage or lose property tax exemptions

"All hands on deck!" is a call going out to business owners in Cook County about a proposed ordinance that will place "devastating" requirements and lead to substantially increased business costs. 

Ordinance 18-1604 - which will be voted on Wednesday in Financy Committee and possibly move ahead to the full board - will cause employers to pay the county's prevailing wage or take the risk of losing property tax incentives the county allows. Simply another way to subvert Cook County municipalities that chose to opt out of the $15 per hour minimum wage mandate passed by the county board last fall.

Trump exempts Canada, Mexico and sets steel tariffs into motion

Brushing aside stern warnings from from ally nations, U.S. companies and lawmakers in his own party, President Trump will impose substantial tariffs Thursday on steel and aluminum imports from across the globe, a senior White House official said.

His order will include an indefinite but conditional exemption for Canada and Mexico, the official said.
