Carbon Steel Metallurgy and Heat Treating
This course teaches the metallurgy of carbon steel and carbon steel heat treating. You will learn about carbon steel microstructures, their effects on steel properties, and the effects of carbon content and heat treating on steel microstructure. The heat treatments that will be discussed include annealing, normalizing, and through hardening (quench and temper, martempering, and austempering). You will also learn about the iron-carbon phase diagram, steel hardenability, and the effects of alloy composition on hardenability

2018 Precision Machining Competition Judging
TMA hosts our annual Precision Machining Competition (PMC) on May 10th and with over 350 projects, we need volunteer judges. We will have breakfast in the morning, and provide lunch. We will provide tools, but judges who are more comfortable using their own micrometers, calipers, etc., are welcome to provide your own.

CNC Training (Level 2) - Advanced G-Code Programming
This 16-week course will build upon topics covered in the introductory class. Using both a CNC mill and CNC lathe, students will learn advanced G-code techniques in this project-based class. Students will select proper tooling, make fixtures, write, run and verify G-code programs, and inspect to print specifications. Students will also work through a series of operational problems created by the instructor.

Overview of the ISO 9001:2015 QMS New Standards
This half-day seminar is for all personnel involved in the development and implementation of their quality and business systems. It will evaluate the new ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Standard. It will encompass a review of the entire ISO 9001:2015 International Standard and focus on clarifying the recent changes, which have been incorporated. In addition, specific guidance and direction will be provided with regard to the "intent of the standard" and the most effective method of integrating the new requirements.

Root Cause Analysis of Metal Problems and Failure Analysis of Metal Fractures
When problems arise with metal stock, components, and joints during product development, manufacturing, and product use, a metallurgical examination is needed to obtain information that will help determine the root cause of the problem.

Many products contain components and joints whose materials do not enable optimum performance, reliability, and cost. The result is products with performance, reliability, and cost problems - failed product tests, materials that degrade during use, components that cost too much, suppliers whose materials and components do not consistently meet requirements, and components/joints that are difficult to fabricate. These problems are often due to the absence of a rigorous materials selection process during product design.
In this highly interactive course you will learn about the engineering process for selecting materials used for components and joints within a product. This process includes consideration of component/joint requirements for performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturing early in the design process. Use of the process enables design of components/joints whose materials are optimized, enabling products to meet their performance, reliability, and cost requirements, and also help keep projects on schedule.

Introduction to Mastercam Lathe Only
This introductory class will cover all aspects of operation, system orientation, operator interface, configuration, and 2D geometry construction for the CNC lathe. Students will use Mastercam software to create part geometry and verify and assign machining toolpaths to geometry. Students will verify newly created toolpaths on CNC machines.
